G'day. I just cycled to the supermarket and back. And yes it was beyond 250 meters, so yes certain bodyparts are threatening to just sue me right now.
And I remember my first Starbucks coffee, I was very young, I was in New York city for the first time in my life, I was on my own, and I remember just feeling very grown up and trendy sipping my overpriced latte. A feeling I will never ever forget and still makes me smile.
Make the world a better place, no more socks in sandals, thank you very much.
Last Saturday, I went to visit my good friend C. who was in the hospital at that time.
She is back at home now and hopefully things will be okay (big hug C!!).
Now, I have lived in Assebroek for 4 years, with my roomie in our super penthouse (those were the days!!). For 4 years, we managed to somehow get lost in the streets of Assebroek. That part of Brugge is just a maze I tell you!
Last tuesday, it was exactly 10 years ago since Jeff Buckley died, drowned in the Mississippi. There was a tribute concert here in Brugge, in the Magdalenazaal.
A tribute to Jeff Buckley. I discovered yesterday that I literally played his cd 'Grace' so many times that it's starting to skip. The songs on that album are more than brilliant, every song brings back such clear memories. The emotion, his voice, they way he brought it. 'Mojo Pin', 'So real', 'Grace', 'Lilac wine', ... His cover of Leanord Cohen's 'Hallelujah' still gives me goosebumps. This cd is pure gold. Off to the store to buy a new one!
My friends and I were really excited to go to this concert, good bands: Arid, Lemon, Zita Swoon and Milow. The concert was also broadcasted live on Studio Brussel. And it costed only 10 euros. Splendid!
But wait a minute...a tribute to a songwriter. Hmm you'd think they would play a lot of songs of this artist then right?
Lemon did one song, one I love, 'Nightmares by the Sea', Milow did 'Jewel Box' and Arid did a tiny bit of 'Eternal life' at the end of their own song 'Life'. That's it? No more Jeff Buckley songs? I think everyone in the audience was as dissapointed as I was. No 'Last goodbye'? No 'Grace'? I would give my left arm to hear Arid's Jasper sing 'Grace'. Well maybe not my arm but a hell of a lot of appreciation.
Come on guys, your bands bring good songs, Arid was brilliant as usual... but hey, a little respect, a tribute to an artist is not an excuse to promote your own new singles right?
Our Last Goodbye: an evening without Jeff Buckley-music. Or way too little of it anyway.
I just had a couple of very exciting weeks, our entire city of Brugge had 7 exciting weeks. Award winning director Martin McDonagh decided to shoot his new film In Bruges here, well, in Brugge. All over the historic center of the city. Trucks, filmsets, lights, cranes, ... everywhere.
Actors in this movie are Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Ralph Fiennes and more.
I met some really cool people from the crew. I got a chance to meet Colin Farrell, who was quite charming. I made a new, very dear friend (no not Colin ;-).
'In Bruges' is the darkly comedic tale of the fates of hit men Ray (Farrell) and Ken (Gleeson). After a difficult job in London, the team is ordered by their boss Harry (Fiennes) to cool their heels in Bruges. Very much out of their comfort zones, the men find themselves drawn into increasingly dangerous entanglements with locals, tourists, and a film shoot. Soon, their perspectives on life and death are violently skewed.
Filming's over now, the crew is gone. They finished the last shoots in London last week. No more Christmas decorations in the city, no more puzzled tourists wondering if we celebrate Christmas at a different time. It's empty. I miss my special friend.
